About the Residency Program
Through developing and managing artistic venues, galleries, studios, and community-based programming, Kranzberg Arts Foundation provides essential infrastructure enabling the arts to flourish in the St. Louis region. Our residency program adopts an arts-based approach to community development, aligning resources and investments with community vision and needs. Committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, the program supports economic development and cultural sustainability, further positioning St. Louis as a leading arts and entertainment destination.

Facilities and Programs
Kranzberg Arts Foundation operates multiple acclaimed venues and creative spaces, including The Kranzberg, .ZACK, The Marcelle, The Grandel, Hansen House, The Dark Room, The Big Top, High Low, Sophie’s Artist Lounge, 3333 Washington, Walls Off Washington, and 3701 Grandel Square. The Foundation also supports prominent events and initiatives such as MATI Festival and Conference (formerly known as Music at The Intersection), Wednesday Night Jazz Jam, and the St. Louis Art Place Initiative.

The Kranzberg Arts Foundation is committed to supporting exemplary art that is accessible to all facets of the St. Louis community. In support and recognition of St. Louis area artists, the Foundation continues to redefine and expand our short and long-term residency programs.

Residency Mission Statement
The Kranzberg Residency Programs utilize artistic venues, studios, community programming, and strategic partnerships to empower artists from diverse backgrounds. These residencies offer structured time and resources, enabling artists to realize their full creative vision and potential.

General Requirements for Applicants:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Solo artists only (no groups, collaborations, companies, or organizations.)
  • Reside within the St. Louis region  (View St. Louis Region Map)
  • Cannot be employed by or for the Kranzberg Arts Foundation
  • Cannot be in pursuit or pursue a degree during the residency
  • Heart and Soul Training (Required before starting residency; click to learn more)
  • If selected, must be available the week before Thanksgiving for Orientation

Desired Applicant Qualities

  • Strong commitment to artistic creation and development
  • High-quality examples of prior work
  • Clearly articulated project proposals
  • Realistic ability to complete proposed projects within the residency timeframe

The Kranzberg Artist Residency welcomes serious artists from all backgrounds. Formal art education is not required to apply.

Cohort Residency Duration: 18 months
KAF Visual and High Low Writers Residency Calendar: January 2024 – June 2025

Why 18 Months?

The Kranzberg Arts Foundation is a vast arts ecosystem serving both organizations, artists, and community like. Our vision is to ensure that our Artists in Residency are given the opportunity and time to maximize their creative potential to the absolute fullest. After many meetings and analysis we feel an 18 month residency ensures that our residents are able to immerse themselves in all aspects of our infrastructure. Through professional development, community wellness, and proximity to artists and organization our program also serves as an incubator lending to our artists creating meaningful collaboration and holistic partnerships. Our goal is to elevate world class artists to new heights not only creatively but as community members and potentially arts entrepreneurs.

Important Dates:

    • Open Call: May 30th – July 10th at 12:00pm CST
    • Final Selections: around Sept. 22nd, 2023
    • Artist and Public Announcements: No later than October 31st, 2023
    • On-Boarding and Orientation: Nov 13- 18, 2023
    • Residency Duration: Between January 2024 – June 2025

What kind of Residency is this?

We will be selecting 4 Kranzberg Visual Artists in Residence, 2 High Low Writers in Residence, and 2 Kranzberg Musicians in Residence to participate in this 18-month Residency program with Kranzberg Arts Foundation.
