This month, we are proud to highlight the powerful lens of Tiffany J. Sutton, our June Spotlight Photographer at Sophie’s Artist Lounge.

Born in 1981 in Rochester, NY and raised in suburban St. Louis, Sutton began documenting the people around her as a teen in the 1990s, sparking a lifelong devotion to photography. As a largely self-taught artist with formal study at Washington University in St. Louis, her work intimately examines Black identity, selfhood, and belonging through portraiture. Sutton’s photography centers Black families and individuals within the private and sacred spaces of home, elevating the beauty and complexity of their lives with tenderness and intention.

Her portraits invite quiet reflection while boldly affirming the presence and significance of Black life—making her an essential voice in contemporary visual storytelling.
