2026 KAIR Visual Arts Residency (18 Months) – Overview
January 2026 – June 2027
The Visual Arts Residency is an 18-month program designed to support four outstanding visual artists in a collaborative, resource-rich environment. This residency provides artists with the time, space, and support needed to develop substantial bodies of work, foster collaboration, and fully realize their creative visions.

- Selected through a competitive open call
Residency Timeline:
- Open Submission Period: Monday, May 19 – Wednesday, July 2, 2025
- Artist Notification: No later than Tuesday, September 2, 2025
- Interviews (for Selected Artists): No later than Monday, October 6 – Friday, October 10, 2025
- Public Announcement of New Residents: No later than Wednesday, October 22, 2025
- Orientation & Onboarding: Monday, November 10 – Saturday, November 15, 2025
- Residency Duration Begins: Thursday, January 1, 2026

The Four P’s (Pillars) of KAIR
Residents utilize Kranzberg Arts Foundation resources to thrive artistically and personally. Residency deliverables vary and are tailored to your practice.
What We Provide:
- Stipend:
- $5,000 Residency stipend (no additional funding beyond this)
- Promotion:
- Basic storytelling support through foundation channels and newsletters.
- (Please note: This is not management or comprehensive marketing services)

- Workspace and Presenting Space:
- Venue space and event staffing
- Dedicated workspace (customized to practice needs; housing not included)
- Community Connection:
- Proximity to residential organizations and other creatives
Additional Requirements:
- Required onboarding/orientation and KAF Heart and Soul Training (Kranzberg Arts Foundation guest services and core values training)
- Tri-monthly check-ins with the Residency Coordinator
- Periodic surveys and assessments

Who Should Apply?
Serious visual artists interested in collaborative exhibition opportunities and installations. This includes painters, photographers, printmakers, ceramicists, illustrators, graphic designers, digital and electronic artists, textile/fiber artists, sketch artists, and multidisciplinary visual artists.
General Requirements for Applicants
- Must be 18 years or older
- Solo artists only (no groups, collaborations, companies, or organizations)
- Reside within the St. Louis region (view St. Louis region map)
- Cannot be employed by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation
- Cannot pursue a degree during the residency period
- Heart and Soul Training (Kranzberg Arts Foundation guest services and core values training)
- If selected, must be available the week before Thanksgiving for Orientation
