The Kranzberg Arts Foundation in partnership with local employers, has launched ArtWorQ, an initiative to connect job seekers with careers in the Arts and Entertainment Industry. There is a big demand for workers in the A&E industry, and this could be your first step toward a fulfilling career in an exciting and creative field.

The Arts & Entertainment Industry Career Prep Program Application from the Kranzberg Arts Foundation is a hands-on training program designed to introduce participants to the technical and behind-the-scenes roles that make live events, performances, and creative experiences possible. Whether you’re interested in front-of-house operations, backstage work, lighting, audio, video, stagehand roles, or production support, this program provides a strong foundation in the essential skills needed to launch a career in the arts and entertainment industry.

The program runs from November 3 to December 16, Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, site visits, and guest speakers, participants will explore various career paths in the field.

Participants in the program will receive a range of valuable supports and incentives, including:

  • Career Readiness & Industry Skills – Gain essential workplace skills and hands-on training aligned with in-demand industries
  • Stipend – Earn up to $2,000 based on attendance.
  • Bus Fare – Transportation assistance to pay for bus fare
  • Lunch Provided – Daily lunch during program hours
  • Industry-Recognized Certifications – Including WorkKeys, First Aid/CPR/AED, OSHA 10, and the WashU Career Readiness Certificate

The Arts & Entertainment Industry Career Prep Program focuses on essential “back of house” skills that support the production and execution of live events, performances, and other creative experiences. Participants will gain a hands-on introduction and foundational knowledge in areas such as audio, lighting, video, stagehand basics, fabrication, and production support. This training is designed to equip participants with a practical introduction to industry-relevant skills that are in demand across the arts, entertainment, and live events sectors.

This training program is designed to prepare participants for entry-level opportunities in the

arts and entertainment industry through a combination of foundational skills training,

hands-on technical experience, and career readiness support. The curriculum is structured

into two core modules:

Module 1: Foundational Learning & Industry Awareness

  • Arts & Entertainment Career Awareness – An introduction to career paths and roles within both the nonprofit and private sectors of the industry.
  • Math & Reading Proficiency – Workplace-relevant literacy and numeracy skills, with a focus on practical application.
  • Basic Computer Skills – Training in widely-used software platforms and digital tools to build technical confidence.
  • Communication Skills – Strategies for e\ective verbal and written communication, collaboration, and teamwork in professional environments.

 

Module 2: Career Preparation & Skill Building

  • Financial Literacy & Problem Solving – Foundational skills in managing finances and addressing real-world challenges in work settings.
  • Hands-On Skill Development – Participants rotate through various technical areas, including audio, video, lighting, and stagehand basics.
  • Worksite Exposure – Site visits and hands-on experiences provide real-world context for classroom learning.
  • Industry Certifications – Opportunities to earn certifications such as OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR.
  • Career Readiness – Workshops focused on professional development, interview preparation, and workplace ethics.

Guest speakers include professionals currently working in the field, both experts from both the nonprofit arts sector and the private events and production industry. They bring real world experience and insight into various aspects of arts and entertainment careers, offering valuable perspectives on industry trends, best practices, and career pathways.

Participants will earn a range of industry-recognized certifications, including the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate, First Aid/CPR/AED, OSHA 10, and the WashU Career Readiness Certificate.

Participants may earn up to $1,000 per module in stipends (a total of up to $2,000), based on their rate of attendance. Please note that participants are responsible for any taxes associated with the end received.

The training program will take place Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., November 3 through December 16. Please note that there will be no sessions on November 26 and 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. There may be one or two optional evening sessions during the program that will give you an opportunity to gain some hands-on experience, and they will be communicated in advance so participants can plan accordingly. Please note that the program schedule is fixed and in-person attendance is mandatory.

Each day in the program will look a little different to reflect the variety of roles and environments in the arts and entertainment industry. You can expect a mix of classroom style learning, guest speakers, and hands-on training. The program will also include tours and site visits to local venues and organizations.

Absences may be permitted for valid reasons at the discretion of the program administrators. However, advance notice and a legitimate justification are required for any time missed. Please note that your stipend will be adjusted accordingly for any days you are absent. Additionally, if you miss sessions that are part of a certificate-bearing component of the program, you may not be eligible to earn that certificate.

You’ll be responsible for getting yourself to and from training sessions, which will primarily take place in the Grand Center neighborhood. Some sessions may be held at other venues, mainly in Grand Center, and any changes in location will be communicated to you in advance. Bus passes will be provided to participants who need subsidized travel assistance.

While the program does not guarantee job placement, it is designed to help you build connections with professionals and organizations in the arts and entertainment industry. Through hands-on training and exposure to real-world work environments, you’ll have opportunities to network and position yourself for future job opportunities that may arise during or after the program.

Space is limited, and applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be notified of your acceptance no later than Friday, October 17. All selected participants must sign an expectation agreement to confirm their commitment. If the program reaches capacity, applicants may be placed on a wait list and will be notified of future training programs.

both nonprofit arts organizations and private companies working in live events, production, and creative services. These sectors o\er a wide range of job opportunities across technical, administrative, and creative roles. This program is not focused on developing or showcasing personal artistic work. Instead, it’s designed to train participants in the behind-the-scenes, backstage aspects of the arts and entertainment industry. It’s ideal for those interested in the technical and logistical side of bringing creative events to life.

If the training program beginning in November 2025 doesn’t work for you, we still encourage you to complete the application to express your interest in the program. This helps us understand demand and keep you informed about future opportunities. We hope to offer additional sessions beginning in 2026.

Once accepted into the program, you will be required to complete a WorkKeys
assessment by Friday, October 24. This assessment can be completed either in person at a testing center or online. WorkKeys measures realworld workplace skills in areas such as Applied Mathematics, Workplace Documents, and Graphic Literacy. Additional details will be shared upon acceptance. If you’ve taken the WorkKeys assessment within the last three years and can provide official documentation of your scores, you will not need to retake the assessment.
The WorkKeys assessment is required for all applicants to help determine their current skill levels; however, assessment scores will not affect acceptance decisions.
