Curatorial & Digital Media Assistant

Position Summary:

Join the dynamic team at the Kranzberg Arts Foundation and make a significant impact in the St. Louis arts scene. As a Curatorial & Digital Media Assistant, you will support the Chief Curator and work alongside the Director of Studios and Galleries and the Collection Manager. This role is perfect for someone with experience in visual arts, archiving, and gallery support who is passionate about contributing to the local arts community, including but not limited to the following venues:

  • The Gallery at The Kranzberg
  • Dark Room Gallery
  • High Low Gallery
  • Walls off Washington
  • Kranzberg Arts Foundation Gallery (Clark Branch)
  • Sophie’s Artist Lounge

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Support:

  • Organize meetings, manage correspondence, and assist with various curatorial tasks.
  • Attend and support gallery receptions, artist talks, and events.
  • Maintain and organize gallery spaces, studios, office and storage areas.
  • Ensure that exhibition and workspaces are clean, safe, and well-organized.

 

Exhibition Support:

  • Conduct research for exhibitions, publications, and educational programs.
  • Gather and organize exhibition materials, including artist details and images.
  • Coordinate with artists and the visual team to confirm exhibition schedules and events.

 

Artist and Exhibition Management:

  • Initiate and process artist contracts.
  • Aid in scheduling, installing, and de-installing exhibitions.
  • Support infrastructure setup, including moving equipment and materials.

 

Documentation and Marketing:

  • Document exhibitions and events through photography for website, social media, and digital exhibitions, and assist with generating copy for public-facing communications.
  • Manage collection documentation, including acquisitions, loans, and condition reports.

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and excellent visitor service.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Adobe Suite, AI, and familiarity with database systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both internal to the organization as well as public-facing.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, including balancing multiple tasks, projects, and timelines.

  • Enjoys collaborating with stakeholders from various backgrounds, maintaining an optimistic and problem-solving approach.
  • Availability on weekends and some evenings.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods during installations and events.

 

Hours and Compensation:

  • Minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Salary $48,000 – $52,000  per year (depending on experience)
  • On-site work required 5 days a week, including event support.

 

At-Will Employment:

Your employment with Kranzberg Arts Foundation is “at will,” and thus you or the Company may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or advance notice. The Kranzberg Arts Foundation reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to change your compensation and/or employee benefits at any time on a prospective basis.

 

Additional Agreements:

As a condition of your employment, you agree to execute any additional agreements required by Kranzberg Arts Foundation at the start of your employment. This includes any agreements that relate to your confidentiality or intellectual property assignment obligations to the Kranzberg Arts Foundation. You further agree that at all times during your employment (and afterward as applicable), you will be bound by, and will fully comply with these additional agreements.

 

Contingencies:

This offer is contingent upon the successful completion of any background or reference checks requested by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation. For purposes of federal immigration law, you will be required to provide to Kranzberg Arts Foundation documentary evidence of your identity and eligibility for employment in the United States. Such documentation must be provided to us within three business days following the start of your employment, or our employment relationship with you may be terminated.

 

Entire Agreement:

This employment agreement, along with the Confidentiality Agreement, sets forth the terms and conditions of your employment with Kranzberg Arts Foundation, and supersedes any prior representations or agreements concerning your employment with the Company, whether written or oral. You acknowledge and agree that you are not relying on any statements or representations concerning Kranzberg Arts Foundation or your employment with Kranzberg Arts Foundation except those made in this agreement. This employment agreement may not be modified or amended except by a written agreement signed by you and an authorized officer of the Kranzberg Arts Foundation.
