ARTIST STATEMENT

To You, I Go (2023) is a visual love letter to St. Louis. It’s not lost upon me that St. Louis is most known for its grittiness and that the city is rarely regarded in a romanticized manner. Even so, I have always aimed to showcase the softest and purest side of my surroundings. The beauty seen and unseen in St. Louis is what makes it special.

In my early 20s, I can recall venturing away from my home in North County to more inclusive and vibrant areas of the city and realizing there was so much more to this city than I had known growing up in the county. A decade later, I’ve met many people in the creative community who’ve inspired me and supported my budding photography career. I’ve become a friend to many and I want to honor my inspirations in my first, solo exhibition.

Alongside portraits, I want viewers of the love letter to experience a visual break in the form of serene naturescapes. This serves as a reminder to give yourself permission to find beauty, even when it doesn’t come to you. Stay safe and be loved, St. Louis.
