2024 Kranzberg Arts Foundation Musicians Residency Overview

We will select two musical artists for the 2024 KAF Residency program through a rigorous jury process involving panelists and interviews.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The Kranzberg Arts Foundation welcomes all communities into our venues and workspaces. We strive to make our environment accessible and inclusive for everyone. We have invested heavily in building an infrastructure that is accessible to the entire St. Louis region. Musicians in Residency

Multiple stages and performance areas allow professional musicians to expand their live music performance portfolio. From April 2024 to June 2025, two selected musicians will play pre-determined shows leading up to a final performance during Music at The Intersection in 2025. Artists will receive marketing and production support, and show guarantees.

Please read before applying:

  • This residency is not a band residency. Selected solo musical artists are encouraged to build ensembles as needed, but it is not the responsibility of the Kranzberg Arts Foundation to manage your musical group.
  • Music at the Intersection will take place two times during the Music Residency. Music Residents will have the opportunity to perform in the 2025 Music at the Intersection. (Please see Music Residency Calendar).
  • Due to timing, the KAF Musicians in Residency will start in April of 2024. Professional Development Training will begin in February 2024. To receive an additional $500 dollars at the end of your residency you will be required to fulfill all Additional Requirements prior to and during your residency within the Residency Cycle Calendar.
  • The Kranzberg Arts Foundation has various spaces and infrastructure to host live shows. We cannot provide and have direct access to on-site recording, record labels, artist management, marketing, or tour booking.

Length

  • 18 Months
  • Onboarding and Orientation: November 2023
  • Professional Development Training February 2024
  • Residency Starts: April 2024
  • Residency Ends: September 2025

Creative Requirements:

  • Paid routine performances at Kranzberg Foundation Venues:
    July 2024 – June 2025

Additional Requirements:

  • Attend required onboarding, orientations, selected Heart and Soul activities, and professional development workshops.
  • Attend Tri-Monthly check-ins with the Residency Director.
  • Complete all surveys and assessments.

Who Should Apply?

New and outstanding Saint Louis based band leaders and solo musicians who are actively performing, with a focus on original music that aligns with St. Louis’ musical, cultural and artistic heritage, the city’s imprint on the American songbook and the relationship St. Louis has with Mississippi River sister cities. Genres: Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll, Hip Hop, R&B, Soul and Gospel. Applicants should be able to consistently play two 60 minute sets with 30 minutes of original material

Utilizing various KAF resources, residents will have the opportunity to thrive as both artists and individuals. Residency deliverables will vary and can be tailored based on your practice.

Partnerships and Stipend Includes:

  • Guarantee (per show) based on a fair market scale
  • Opportunity for an additional $500 at the Residency’s end if Additional Requirements are fulfilled.
  • Discounted Rates with local vendors 

Promotion and Marketing Includes:

  • Marketing and Storytelling support in conjunction with a Marketing Coordinator

Presentation and People Includes:

  • Routine performance opportunities
  • Performance at the 2025 Music at the Intersection
  • Staffing
    • Residency Director
    • Booking and Venue logistics

Placement and Proximity Includes:

  • Rehearsal space
  • Dedicated workspace (based on the needs of your practice)

Programming and Wellness Includes:
